The Rebel Food program is Discovery Organics’ answer to the ugly fruit and vegetable movement.
Its initiative is to help reduce food waste, give our farmers more return for their hard harvesting efforts, and provide our communities with a more affordable certified organic option.
According to the National Geographic, “About a third of the planet’s food goes to waste, often because of its looks. That’s enough to feed two billion people.”
Food loss VS Food waste
Food waste commonly refers to the food discarded at the end of the supply chain: distribution, retail and consumers
Food loss refers to the food lost at the beginning further up the supply chain, at production (farming and postharvest) or processing levels. Some of it is related to quality, some of it to industry standards on sizing, looks, appearance, etc.
